Security for Online Banking

Keeping your online financial and personal information secure and confidential is a top priority at Merchants and Planters Bank. We use the latest in security and technology features to ensure your privacy and security when using our online banking service. In addition to the security measures utilized to protect your information, we want to ask you, as our customer, to partner with us in protecting and securing your information from identity theft. Part of being our security partner starts with your password. Your password should not be composed of common words or something that can be easily guessed. To discourage easily guessed passwords, we have built in certain complexity requirements that make it more difficult for a potential unauthorized access to your account information. Your password must be a least eight characters long and contain at least 2 alphabetic letters (one Uppercase and one lower case), at least one number, and at least one symbol. Additionally we will require that your password change periodically. You will be notified in advance of when your password should be changed.

Here are a few more ways that you can partner with us to ensure the privacy and safety of your account information:

  • Never share your passwords or access code with anyone
  • Never write your passwords down where they could be easily found by others
  • Use unique passwords for each system that you access
  • Change your passwords frequently. Although we will require you to change your password periodically, you can change your password more frequently or immediately if you believe your password has been compromised. 
  • Do not send account or password information through unsecured email 
  • Always be sure your access device are updated to the latest version and that you are receiving current updates and patches to fix identified potential security threats
  • Let us know right away when your customer information changes…name, address and  phone number changes are vital in helping us communicate with you
  • Contact us immediately if you know or suspect your account credentials have been compromised.

Remember that your first contact with us through our online banking service, will require that your access device be authenticated. You will be given the choice of having a unique authentication code sent to you via a text or telephone call to the number we have on record. You must use this code to access our system. This process will be repeated each time you use a device that is not recognized by our system.
